About the series

Nottingham has a rich sporting history, from famed European Cup football wins and unforgettable Ashes matches to legendary local figures such as Brian Clough and Bendigo.

In keeping with the city’s sporting heritage, NTU and UoN come face to face every year in our annual Varsity sporting series. The two-week celebration of sporting talent brings together students from both universities to compete at the city’s top venues.

Notts Varsity is a classic tale of local rivalry dating back to the first Varsity football event in 2001. This year, the series returns for its hotly anticipated 20th anniversary after a two-year time-out due to COVID-related lockdowns.

Fan favourites like basketball and ice hockey will be showcased alongside sports like futsal and table tennis as our students battle it out for the 2022 Varsity winner title.

UoN won the last series back in 2019. Will they retain the title, or will NTU take the trophy from them?

Time will tell, but you can watch it all happen live, starting Sunday 27th March.

Even if sport isn’t your thing, the unique atmosphere, tension, and excitement are not to be missed. So make sure you’re there to cheer your team to victory at one of the biggest events of the year.
